May 1st marked the start of the 2021 Spartan season began for me. It began in the little town of Bigfork Montana. Bigfork, MT is a small town south of Kalispell and it was where the Montana Spartan Trifecta weekend was held. A trifecta weekend event is an event where you have the opportunity to complete a Spartan Trifecta (beast, super, and sprint) in one weekend. To do this, you will run a beast (or ultra if you are up for it and there happens to be an ultra at the event) on the first day of the weekend (Saturday) and then on the second day (Sunday) you run the super in the morning followed by a sprint in the afternoon on the same day. Overall it was a fun weekend and it felt great to get back out to racing. Some of the highlights include getting redemption on the slip wall as well as completing the tire flip without any assistance. Also nearly completed the beater (modified monkey bars where some of the bars would rotate once you grabbed onto them). The event showed me that I really need to work on my grip strength. For the first time in my spartan racing journey I had to do penalty burpees at the Hercules hoist. Couldn’t get a decent grip on the ropes…
